G.A. (Guardian Angel) - The light that extends your life

In a recent innovation project, Elasta developed an elastic band containing one or more conductive tracks. Within the 5X5 project, TEN implemented this technology in the rst commercial application for Elasta. The conductive tracks were optimized for the application of multi-colour LEDs. The elastic light band, with individually controllable LEDs, was then converted into a customizable safety band. In the future other applications, such as way-finding and crowd management systems, could be developed based on this technology.

FACET - The digital birth gift.

Everybody is unique and every personality has an in nite amount of facets. The origin is already visible at birth – the start of a new life. In the context of 5X5 and in collaboration with Cides from Bruges, the creative team of Vanhalst – the company behind ‘bb collections®’ – went looking for a birth present that emphasizes that aspect. The collection was named ‘Facet’ and allows the future parents to create a unique gift. They can make a selection from a wide range of materials, colours and shapes that they can combine as they please. Thanks to Aptus from Harelbeke, Facet gets a digital extension. Each gift has an individual code – once the code is read by the camera of a device, you are referred to a digital platform. There, you can find all of the information about the little miracle – and the parents have full control over the platform. Facet is a unique range that emphasizes diversity, and it is the first digital birth gift on the market.

Last year, Vincent Sheppard decided to combine their ‘kraft’ knowledge with design in a creative lab entitled ‘Atelier N/7’. Alain Gilles responded to this open call with his own interpretation on rattan craft and design. He proposed a wide range of products that t perfectly in the DNA of the young Atelier N/7. The result is ‘WICKED collection’: a fresh take on rattan furniture with a strong graphic touch by combining metal frames with open and closed structures. The collection includes a sofa, an armchair and a few side tables and applications for both indoors and outdoors have been considered. For this project, Junior designer Jessy Van Durme took care of the visual and textual storytelling. This resulted in a graphic interpretation of the set design and printed media.

Viva Sara and STUDIO|Nedda joined forces to design ‘the’ lter coffee/tea 2.0 concept. The ambition was to match the impact of ‘ lter coffee’ at the World Expo in 1958. Central to this new product is the experience, by combining ritual acts with a respect for and making of the perfect ltered coffee or tea. The goal was to nd a solution to present coffee and tea in a low-tech and slow style. It was important that different types of coffee could be chosen, as is already the case with tea. Keywords for the design are: Experience & ritual / Choice / Belgian style / Filtering / Time. The result is a product with an international air and an emphasis on quality and Belgian-style coffee. The graphics and packaging were designed by junior designer Elise Vandeplancke.
